A wonderful and unusual pin/pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Likely of Italian origin, this wonderful piece is made of vibrant 18kt yellow gold and has a very ornate, decorative design. In the center of the piece is a detailed portrait hand-painted on porcelain. The image depicts a regal-looking young woman who is dressed lavishly and adorned with jewels. Delicate sparkling diamonds and gemstones are set within the image, adding a wonderful accent. The diamonds decorate her hairpiece, earrings, and necklace, while a luscious ruby and emerald adorn the fabric of her dress. The hand painted detail is remarkable, including delicate facial features and curled ringlets of hair. The portrait is held behind a glass frame, and is surrounded by a gold filigree border that completes the incredible Victorian design. On the back of the convertible piece is both a pin clasp and bail, allowing it to be hung as a pendant on a chain, or fastened to a favorite garment and worn as a brooch. Stamped on the bail is "269 AL" and "750." An impressive and artistic Victorian piece, it would make a unique addition to any collection!
Measurements: The pin/pendant hangs 2" long, measures 1 1/4" wide, and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is very good. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting, and the pin clasp and bail are both secure and in good working condition. All of the diamonds and gemstones in the portrait are intact. The painted portrait itself is somewhat faded around the edges, likely due to age or possible previous water damage. However, it is minor and does not detract from the beauty of the design.
